Lafiya extends the family planning supply chain directly into communities through trained government health workers (‘Lafiya Sisters’). The Lafiya model meets women where they are, with a trusted member of their own community. Trained government-employed Lafiya Sisters deliver high-quality counselling and contraception directly in last-mile communities. Trust unlocks access in ways no facility-based model can replicate: >50% of women who take up a method are first-time contraceptive users. This community-based approach improves demand visibility through real-time service delivery data, and Lafiya supports governments to progressively assume financing and service delivery responsibilities. Working closely with the government, this approach supports national priorities at all levels.
