Around 60% of all maternal deaths and 50% of newborn deaths happen in conflict, displacement, and disaster settings.**
Pregnant refugees have complex physical, psychological, and socioeconomic needs that make them especially vulnerable to experiencing complications or dying in labor.†
- Delayed care before, during, and after pregnancy and childbirth
- A lack of skilled health providers and resources in crisis zones, in transit, and in refugee camps or temporary housing
- Cultural or linguistic barriers to accessing care in their new home
- Poor socioeconomic conditions, including increased financial instability
- Other physical, psychological, or social trauma related to their situation – including health issues like malnutrition or injury

Supporting Before They Are Forced to Flee

- Provide Resources and Education: I will support programs that offer education, healthcare, and economic opportunities to at-risk communities, empowering them to thrive in their homeland.
Welcoming Them in New Communities
- Promote Inclusivity and Acceptance: I will work towards creating welcoming and inclusive communities that embrace refugee families, recognizing their potential and contributions.
- Facilitate Integration: I will support initiatives that offer language training, job opportunities, and educational resources to help refugees build a new life and integrate smoothly into their new environment.

Advocate
Continue to use your voice to advocate for policies that protect and support refugees - especially pregnant women, mothers, and children. Remember - they need our support before they are forced to flee, while they are on their journey, and once they reach their new homes in our communities and around the world.
Research local, state, and federal policies. Contact your local representatives, participate in community events, and educate others about the various refugee crises.
Raise Awareness
Follow @everypregnancy and our partners working to support refugee women and children on social media. Amplify our messages and help spread the world about their needs and how we can support them.
