To embark on a harrowing journey with no guarantee of survival or security. Yet, around the world, millions are being displaced by increased conflict and the impact of climate change. In these times of insecurity, pregnant women, mothers, and children are the most vulnerable.

Why Your Support Matters
Every minute, 20 people are forced to flee their homes to escape conflict, persecution, or disaster.*
Around 60% of all maternal deaths and 50% of newborn deaths happen in conflict, displacement, and disaster settings.**
Pregnant refugees have complex physical, psychological, and socioeconomic needs that make them especially vulnerable to experiencing complications or dying in labor.†
- Delayed care before, during, and after pregnancy and childbirth
- A lack of skilled health providers and resources in crisis zones, in transit, and in refugee camps or temporary housing
- Cultural or linguistic barriers to accessing care in their new home
- Poor socioeconomic conditions, including increased financial instability
- Other physical, psychological, or social trauma related to their situation – including health issues like malnutrition or injury

Supporting mothers and children before they are forced to flee
- Address root causes: I will advocate for policies and initiatives that address the root causes of displacement and center the needs of mothers and children in efforts to promote security, stability, and development in regions facing ongoing and potential crises.
- Provide resources and education: I will support programs that offer essential healthcare, education, and economic opportunities to at-risk mothers, children, and their communities – enabling them to thrive in their homeland.
Assisting during their journey
- Ensure safe passage: I will contribute to efforts that secure safe routes for refugees, ensuring they can travel with dignity and protection from harm.
- Offer immediate relief: I will support organizations that provide life-saving supplies, health care, and emotional support to mothers and children in transit and in their host communities – ensuring their basic needs are met.
Welcoming them in new communities
- Promote inclusivity and acceptance: I will work toward creating welcoming and inclusive communities that embrace refugee families, recognizing that anyone can become a refugee and that everyone deserves to have a home and be safe.
- Facilitate integration and care: I will support initiatives that understand the unique needs of refugee mothers and children and proactively work to reach them with essential health services in their new home, as well as with training, job opportunities, and educational resources to help them plan their futures and reach their full potential.

Advocate
Continue to use your voice to advocate for policies that protect and support refugees - especially pregnant women, mothers, and children. Remember - they need our support before they are forced to flee, while they are on their journey, and once they reach their new homes in our communities and around the world.
